Position Description: The Maine Educational Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing/ Gov. Baxter School for the Deaf currently has an opening for a Early Intervention Specialist in our Early Childhood and Family Services Program. Become part of a family-centered team supporting children who are deaf or hard of hearing, birth through age five, throughout Maine. This is a full time, 205-day outreach position based in our Falmouth office. Responsibilities include providing: • Visiting homes and facilitating discussions related to hearing levels, language development, communication options/opportunities and overall child development for families of children who are deaf or hard of hearing, birth to age five. • Providing early intervention services (0-2). • Collaborating with early childhood agencies and providers. • On-site observing of and consulting to early childhood programs. • Directing Specially Designed Instruction or Speech Therapy to preschoolers. • Consulting, in-service training, and support for teachers, caregivers and professionals. • Monitoring communication and language development through a variety of assessments. • Strong team membership on the Early Childhood team of MECDHH and Child Development Services. • Traveling in-state required with use of state vehicles or reimbursement for mileage of own vehicle usage. Minimum Qualifications: • Eligibility for Maine Teacher of the Deaf certification or Maine Speech Pathologist Licensure with CCC. • Masters Degree preferred. • Education background and experience in early childhood and parent education. • Prior experience with children who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing. • Willingness to support parent choices. • Fluency in ASL or willingness to learn. • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. • Willingness to travel.
