Position Description: General Information: The Department of Social Work has graduate (MSW) and undergraduate (BA) programs, both accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Each program has approximately 50 students, and students represent diverse backgrounds, cultures, learning styles, and educational experiences. The overwhelming majority of the undergraduates are deaf or hard of hearing, and approximately half of the MSW students are deaf and hard of hearing. Position is contingent upon funding. Responsibilities: Full time, nine-month, faculty position with responsibility for teaching courses in one or more of the major curriculum areas of the MSW program (social work practice, social work research, human behavior and the social environment, and/or social welfare policy). The incumbent will be responsible for fulfilling duties in three areas: teaching, scholarship, and service in accordance with the University’s faculty guidelines. The incumbent is also responsible for ongoing course development for both on campus and distance education, responsibility/ownership of a specific course sequence for assessment purposes for the Office of Academic quality and CSWE, advising students, and participating in other activities in the program, department, University, and community as opportunities arise. Minimum qualifications of candidates for the position: • An MSW degree from a CSWE-accredited program. • Minimum of 5-years post MSW social work experience within 10 years. • Ability to teach in American Sign Language. Preferred qualifications: • PhD preferred; if candidate does not have a doctorate, (s)he will be expected to begin doctoral studies prior to converting to tenure track in the fourth year. • Experience in higher education teaching. • Knowledge of issues relevant for deaf individuals, families, groups, and communities, including Deaf culture. • Experience using distance education.
