Position Description: CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree in Education of the Deaf and/or Hard of Hearing or equivalent, Arizona Department of Education certification as a Teacher of the Deaf and/or Hard of Hearing and, a Principal Certification. Five years' teaching experience with students who are Deaf/HH and three years' supervisory experience. Proficient in American Sign Language. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education Specialist or higher degree in Educational Administration in Special Education or related field. Experience in a school for the Deaf/HH, and in public school programs serving students who are Deaf/HH. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide visible and positive instructional leadership to assure that educational programs are of the highest quality, consistent with needs of students, currently and in the future. Assure that student achievement in areas of academic, social, functional, career and college readiness, and independent living, have a primary focus for all areas of instruction. Assure that professional development relates directly to and is supporting high levels of student achievement in all programs, and includes but not limited to, student assessment, curriculum development and progress monitoring, implementing best practices in teaching and learning requirements for IEP development and implementation. Assure that staff performance and evaluation are completed in a manner that is supportive of the process to improve instruction for all staff, and which meet agency requirements. Assure fair and equitable implementation of policies and procedures consistent with the mission of ASDB. Keep staff informed of ASDB policy and procedural changes. In conjunction with Human Resources, recruit and recommend for employment the highest qualified candidates for vacant positions. Participate in the development of agency policies, program planning, and staff development. Provide leadership in developing and monitoring department and ASDB budgets. Assure that appropriate student program and staff records are maintained for progress reporting, compliance monitoring, personnel functions, auditing, and budget justification. Promote and maintain cooperative, effective partnerships with parents, schools, and the community. Represent, in a positive manner, your campus and agency at meetings on and off campus. Represent, in a positive manner, your campus and ASDB in the community. Complete other duties as assigned or delegated. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of research based best practices, educational principles and techniques relating to students who are Deaf/HH, including those students with additional disabilities; curriculum, instruction, curriculum modifications, and educational planning; and principles of effective school management. Knowledge and experience with laws pertaining to special education and general education. Excellent written and expressive communication skills. Excellent planning and organizational skills.
